Introducing Kiri Babbage, one of our talented writers responsible for a variety of books we are about to release. We asked her a few questions and you can see her answers below.

What excited you most about books?

Ever since I was little, I’ve used books as a form of escapism. I love to be taken on a journey and having my emotions put through a wringer. Books help us expand our imagination, our vocabulary and our education. I think that’s the most exciting part of reading.

What brought on your interest in writing?

My grandfather is a fantastic writer and poet and we have written letters to each other ever since i can remember. Our letters were always stories rather than conventional letters. I would write to him and say that I’d stolen a helicopter, flown it to Spain and fallen out. Then I would ask him to send grapes as I was in hospital with my eyelash in a sling and my toenail in a cast. I was a marvelous liar.

What do love most about the content you have been writing?

I have two little nieces and the stories are based on them and their friends. I use their personalities in the stories and I love the idea that I can give them these stories and tell them they are in a book.

What was your favourite book growing up?

My favourite book has always been Not Now Bernard by David McKee. can even recite it by heart.

Why should kids read the books we are creating?

Kids should read all the books that they can. I was obsessed with reading books, after reading Roald Dahl’s Matilda. You can always learn something new from every writer. It’s important to give new writers a chance, it’s a hard industry to get into.
