Sometimes you start reading a book and you love it straight away. From start to finish, you can’t put it down. Other times, a book may seem a little dull at first but it soon grows on you. But from time to time you will pick up a book that you just don’t like. You trawl through the pages slowly, trying to imagine the world the author is creating and trying to get involved with the characters but you just can’t connect to it.

Don’t worry! This is perfectly normal. You are never going to like every book, just like you don’t enjoy every TV program, film or game. The important thing to remember is that it doesn’t mean you don’t like reading, you just didn’t like reading that book. If you watch a boring show on TV, you change the channel. So rather than struggling with a book you can’t get on with, why don’t you try something new?

Perhaps you should take a break from that book and come back to it later? The right book read at the right time can make all the difference to how much you get out of it. So remember, it’s okay to give up a book that you don’t like, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up on reading all together.
