Many of us have claimed to feel ‘lonely’. It could be because our friends are on holiday or due to watch a sad film that brings back memories. However, there are a growing number of elderly people in the UK who are suffering from constant loneliness and isolation. There are now over five million people over the age of 60 that are affected by loneliness, and these worrying statistics caused charities to step in.

Charity Friends of the Elderly launched the campaign ‘Be a friend’ in order to pair together members of the community with their elderly neighbours. With the summer holidays coming up, it is an ideal opportunity for people of all ages, but particularly the younger generation.
